Advance Self Storage Solutions Tips for Packing and Storing Items Safely

We highly recommend following this guideline to ensure your storage with Advance Self Storage Solutions, is a safe and secure.

  • The items you store at our facility are the sole responsibility of you, their owner. * Advance Self Storage Solutions dose not insure your items; however, we have low-cost insurance policies available.
  • Make sure your units door is locked. Try the door before you leave to make sure the latch is in the locked position.
  • Prohibited Storage Items, never store animals, perishables, liquids, explosives, flammable liquids or fuels, toxic materials, or items that need a controlled environment. Don’t forget to drain the fuel from gasoline engines before storage!
  • We highly recommend the use of pallets for air circulation and prevent goods from being stored directly on the concrete floor. They also are an excellent precaution against unexpected water damage.
  • We encourage the use of mothballs to deter the presence of mice and other pests.
  • Do not store your items tight against the walls or ceiling, let the air circulate! Packing the Unit tight could cause condensation.
  • Covering your items with plastic sheeting is a good way of protecting your items from dust or mishaps.
  • Leave a few aisles so you can easily access everything.
  • We supply high security disk locks with every unit, because we want your goods to be safe.
  • Remember, Label the outside of your boxes for easy reference, Place your most valuable items in the rear and most frequently used items up in front.

STORAGE TIPS

  1. Wrap mattresses in plastic mattress bag.
  2. Appliances should be clean and dry. Some goods can be stored in boxes inside large appliances, remember to wedge the door slightly ajar on refrigerators or freezers during storage.
  3. Store mirrors on their side, with duct tape X on mirror.
  4. Disassemble furniture as much as possible and wrap with the legs of the tables and beds in a blanket or foam wrap.
  5. Metal items such as bicycles and tools can be wiped with cloth containing a few drops of machine oil to help prevent rust.
  6. Pack books on their back, not on their spine, in small boxes.
  7. Wash your dishes and wrap them in bubble or foam wrap. Pack in boxes designed for dishware.
  8. Don’t put the mattress on top of anything that can make it bend, or place heavy items on top of the mattress.
  9. Don’t stack heavy items on top of dishware.
  10. For clothing that needs to remain hung, wash them, cover them in plastic wrap and hang them on wardrobe hangers.
  11. Wash all linens and place them inside totes with cedar chips or silicone packets.
  12. Disassemble your TV from the stand. Wrap a thick blanket around your television.
  13. Condition any leather items, like furniture or clothing, with a leather conditioner.
  14. You can call 1800-CLEANUP to assist in disposal of hazardous materials (from oil & oil filters to tires and batteries).
